Court of Protection
Rensburg Sheppards was appointed as a panel fund manager by the Court of Protection following a competitive tender in 2003.
As the administrative arm of the Court of Protection, the Public Guardianship Office provides financial protection services for clients who are not able to manage their financial affairs.
The PGO's Investments Branch provides help and guidance to Receivers about investments and aims to ensure that clients´ financial affairs are managed sensibly and responsibly, so that their current and future needs are met. The PGO does not manage investments on behalf of clients and has made arrangements with two firms of fund managers to advise and manage the investments of the Court's clients. These panel fund managers handle over 2,000 investment portfolios for the Court´s clients, and are therefore very familiar with the procedures and with the issues that may arise. The panel fund managers provide a full valuation and review service (usually twice a year, and more regularly if necessary), as well as a constant review of individual holdings.
The panel fund managers' fees have been specifically negotiated with the PGO for the benefit of the clients and will generally be lower than those that are normally available in the market.
It is important that the Receiver inform the PGO and the panel fund manager about any relevant information that may affect the client´s circumstances. Once their appointment has been set up, there will be a direct relationship between the panel fund manager and the Receiver, which will be supported by a separate client agreement. In addition, the PGO monitors the performance of portfolios managed by the panel fund managers.
